Forests in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Lyon is a privileged hub of international relations and the surrounding region is a very attractive location. The forests of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, found in the départements of Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isère, attract international investors, particularly those from Germany, Switzerland and Italy. In this outstanding forest region, wood is produced for the many businesses in the sector: logging companies, sawmills, joineries and the paper/card industries. The climate, soils and forest sites are great assets attracting investment in high-quality production forests.

The forests in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes gain ground year after year. They are regularly planted on land left clear by agriculture, although these forests are extremely fragmented. The region counts numerous private forest owners, envied by potential buyers either side of the French border.

These production forests, with their pine and spruce, are a safe investment, providing sustainable income for French and foreign investors.

Towards the Massif Central, the forest region is made up of wide expanses on the rugged relief. The new Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region contains many privately-owned production forests. The sales prices are close to the real market value of the standing timber. Production is abundant and the wood of high quality, much sought-after by the sawmills in the Massif Central.

The forests of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes are also renowned for the quality of their lumber. The Douglas firs and spruces from the Chaise-Dieu forest region are highly-prized. In Allier, and especially the Tronçais forest, production is recognized as very ‘high-end’ on the French and international markets. From cooperage to hunting with hounds, the Tronçais forest has something to appeal to every kind of forest owner.
